Cottage Gardens

Whatever the season, we’re blessed in Sonoma County with a climate that colors our environment and our lives.

At Raccoon Cottage April and May are most spectacular with wisteria, a Lady Banks rose climbing one of the pear trees, and blossoms bursting on the fruit trees. Summer brings color with our annuals as well as the perennials we’ve planted over the years. By August we’re counting on the bounty of the orchard for the natural beauty that surrounds us. The quiet that descends upon the landscape by November is a welcome respite from the constant work of Spring and Summer. Even in deepest winter the primroses and cyclamen brighten the corners of the garden. The rains promise daffodils, tulips, daphne, and lilies to come. Choose your season, and we promise you a visual treat.

And a poetic view from one guest, an avid birder who visits every year . . .

“My anticipation always mounts as I travel the twists and turns of Vine Hill Road leading to Raccoon Cottage. Once there I know I’ve reached a fascinating green world. Towhees, finches, jays, wrens and bush tits come to the feeders and if I look up I may see a circling vulture or a hawk. As I walk around the property, California flowers remind me that I’ve escaped my own struggling gardens at home."
